Here is a slideshow featuring Danielle Butin, MPH, OTR, founder of Afya, and Evenel St-Vil, a former English teacher and earthquake survivor who now devotes his life to rehabilitating amputees and other earthquake survivors at one of Afya’s sites in Haiti. Ernest Barthelemy, M3 at MSSM, wrapped up the panel before everyone headed out for a meal generously catered by Krik Krak Restaurant.

Based out of Yonkers, NY, Afya (Swahili for ‘good health’) is an organization that operates internationally; Afya collects and ships medical supplies as they are needed, and also organizes and sends teams of medical personnel to rehabilitate and heal people in need. Check out Afya here. Co-sponsored event with CMCA and AACC.

Krik Krak Restaurant is one of the only New York restaurants specializing in Authentic Haitian Creole cuisine, especially outside of Brooklyn. They are located on Amsterdam between 101st and 102nd streets in Manhattan. If you venture across town to taste their food, be sure to mention Mount Sinai Chapter of Medical Students for Haiti!
